There are peons in every school. At present three peons work in our school. Sri Sahadev Behera is one of them. He is the senior-most peon of our school. He is about fifty-five years old. He has been working in our school for the last thirty years. He puts on a dhoti and a shirt every day. He looks handsome in this dress.
He has to do a lot of work in school. remains present in the school during the working hours i.e. from the beginning till the end. His first duty of the day is to see that all the rooms have been swept properly and the furniture in the classroom is kept in the right order.
He rings the school bell and moves from one class to another with notices and circulars. He carries maps, charts, science apparatus, and other teaching aids to the classrooms as and when required.
In addition to this, he often works in the school garden and keeps the playground clean. At times he goes to the post office, bank, and treasury on some official work according to the order of the headmaster.
He is on good terms with all the teachers including the headmaster. He's dealing with the students is also good. He respects all the teachers. He is always obedient to them. So all the teachers like him. The students also like him for his loving attitude towards them.
He is very sincere and hardworking. He is also punctual and dutiful. Everybody is pleased with him for his good behavior. The parents and guardians of the students who come to the school frequently also like him very much for his good dealings.
His financial condition is not so good. He is a low-paid government servant. His monthly salary is less than that of the teachers of the school. However, he manages his family in accordance with his monthly income.
He leads a simple life. Although he is not a teacher, his services for the students are no less. Like other students, I like him very much. I wish there were ideal peons like him in every school.
