Man is a social animal. He can not live a happy life without the company of others. While living with other people in society, he makes friends with some other people. Everybody needs friends. I have some friends too.
Deepak Sahu is my best friend. Both of us live in Sunabeda. Deepak is fourteen years old. He is fair and strong. But he is a bit shorter than me.
His smiling face makes him look handsome. We are in the same school and in the same class. I have been studying at Sunabeda High School for the last three years. Deepak accompanied me as his family lived in the neighborhood on the day of my admission to the school.
He sat beside me in the class. In this way, we met each other every day. Gradually we became friends as our hobbies, interests, likings, and dislikings have been the same.
Deepak is a clever boy. He is also straightforward and sober. He is fully attentive in class and sincere in his studies. Like me, he also scores good marks in the examinations. There have been healthy competitions between us for scoring marks on the tests.
He does not take any interest in games and sports. He is often found eating sweets and chewing chocolate. These are a few drawbacks of Deepak. Due to these bad habits, sometimes he becomes ill.
Collecting different kinds of stones is his hobby. He has collected several rare stones and kept them in his reading room. He is also interested in gardening. He takes care of his parents' plants in their garden.
We have visited many places together. We visited the powerhouse at Machkund Hydro-Electric Project during the last Christmas holidays. We have been to Gupteswar, Kolab, Bagra, and many other picnic spots.
I like him for all his qualities narrated above. There has never been any quarrel between us. I hope that our friendship will last long and be lifelong best friends.

True friendship is a great blessing in this life full of pain and misery. But real friendship is a rare thing in this world. Unselfishness is the very essence of true friendship. Two friends must be devoted and loyal to each other and have constancy.
A person should bear with his friend's infirmities and not criticize his friend's faults and weaknesses. There must be confidence between them. Two friends must sympathize with each other's views. They should have the same likes and dislikes.
I Have quite a few friends, but Anupam is my best friend. He lives next door to us. He is the son of a leading businessman in the town. He is the same age as me. He is always cheerful, gentle, obedient, and hardworking. He is always neat. He believes in the maxim 'plain living and high thinking'.

Once, he and I were coming back from our evening walk. On the way, he saw a boy who had met with an accident and fractured his leg. He stopped there and took him to the hospital, and got him admitted.
Anupam is quite an intelligent boy. He is always top of the class. At the Annual Prize Giving Ceremony, he gets many prizes. He is an outstanding debater and always takes a keen interest in the literary activities of the school. Besides, he is a fine cricketer. He is popular with the pupils and with all the teachers at the school.
A true friend is the best medicine in life. A true friend halves our sorrows and doubles our joys. My friend Anupam is one of such true friends. He never finds fault with me and gives me every possible encouragement in my work.
